House R

House R is the new construction of a single-family residence on the banks of the Rhine in Düsseldorf. The project includes the demolition of the existing building and the complete planning and realization across all service phases — from preliminary studies and building permit planning to detailed design, tendering, contract award, and construction management, currently under execution.

The house is designed using timber construction with an innovative CLT system (Cross Laminated Timber). The high degree of prefabrication allows for precise off-site production and on-site assembly in less than one week. This significantly reduces construction time, interface challenges, and on-site risks.

The architectural concept responds sensitively to the specific site conditions: while the plot enjoys privileged views of the Rhine and the horizon, the ground floor has limited privacy due to the heavily frequented riverside promenade. As a result, the house closes itself off toward the street at ground level and opens toward the garden. The main living spaces with views of the river are located on the upper floors, where landscape and openness can be experienced with greater privacy.
