Renovation and conversion of a former vocational school into a special education school
Every renovation project begins by uncovering what lies beneath. In this first phase, the demolition works have allowed a thorough understanding of the building’s actual condition — an essential step before any rigorous planning of the intervention can take place.
One of the most delicate aspects of this phase has been the treatment and removal of asbestos-containing materials, carried out by specialist contractors under strict safety protocols. Work that remains invisible in the final result, but is fundamental to ensuring the health and safety of those who will occupy this space in the future — in this case, children with special needs.
With the building cleared, the first drylining works and initial installations begin, starting to define the new spatial organisation of the school. Every decision at this stage lays the foundation for what is to come.
