Renovation and conversion of a former vocational school into a special education school
We are very proud to be part of the transformation of a former vocational school in Wuppertal into a school for children with intellectual disabilities. A project with strong social impact that adapts the existing building to the functional, technical and spatial requirements of a contemporary inclusive learning environment.
The intervention is being carried out in two phases. The first phase, scheduled until September 2026, includes all measures required to enable the school to start operating in the next academic year. The second phase, planned for 2027, will include the installation of an elevator as well as the expansion and improvement of the main entrance.
The design introduces a new colour code that brings identity, vitality and orientation to the building, adapting it to its new use. In addition, specific measures for acoustic improvement and fire protection are implemented.
Universal accessibility and the creation of a safe, inclusive and clearly structured environment are central principles of the project. Contributing to more equitable and inclusive educational spaces is one of the great responsibilities—and also one of the greatest privileges—of our profession.
